Rudder High vs. A&M Consolidated Soccer Game Preview

February 5, 2019

This week’s “penalty kick” is for the district game between Rudder and A&M Consolidated. Below are five points in regards to Tuesday’s match.

1. A&M Consolidated comes in with a better record of 7-2-1, compared to Rudder’s 4-9-1. While the Tigers have gone undefeated in district play, the Rangers have struggled to find a win.

2. Adding to a stronger record, A&M Consolidated is also playing on home turf. However, the 20-minute commute between schools could still allow a steady presence of support for Rudder.

3. Rudder’s 2-7 loss from Magnolia West earlier this week. Like A&M Consolidated, Magnolia West was also undefeated in district play. Facing two back-to-back teams like that can surely be difficult to conjure up a winning mentality.

4. A&M Consolidated is coming off a six-straight win streak. The energy from a strong presence like that will surely add to the confidence of the Tigers.

5. Rudder players, Jesus Reyes and Yahir Cuevas, have shooting strength and they have proved themselves as big forces for the Rangers, with 11 total goals between the two. The Tigers’ roster has shown to be more well rounded with a variety of players making key shots. This may prove to be a positive for the Rangers if they can defend Reyes and Cuevas effectively.

Update: A&M Consolidated beat Rudder 3-2 in a tight showdown
