Brazos Christian vs Snook Recap

September 7, 2019

Friday September 6th,  the Brazos Christian Eagles had their home opener of the 2019-2020 football season. The Eagles hosted the Snook Bluejays in a pre-district matchup. The Eagles were looking to record their first win after suffering defeat to open the season.

Quarterback Bryce Steel came out firing, throwing three touchdowns in the first quarter. This gave the Eagles a commanding 21-8 lead to end the first.

The second quarter was the key for Brazos’ defense as they came away with two turnover on downs, and a fumble recovery. Going into halftime the Eagles led the Bluejays 28-14. Coming out of halftime the Eagles started slow, but the defense bailed them out coming up with a big interception. That play got the offense rolling scoring another touchdown. Heading into the fourth quarter Snook had battled back and the score was a close one of 35-30. The momentum of the game shifted when #11 Stryker Gray came away with his second interception of the game. Brazos continued to score at will and closing the game by forcing a turnover on downs. The Eagles came away with a 48-38 win for their first win of the season.

Coach Ben Hoffmeier gave a quote on his team’s performance stating, “Snook is a very good football team and for his team to come together and play tough was a huge step for this program.” Coach Hoffmeier and the Eagles look to take this momentum into next week’s matchup.
