On Friday, the A&M Consolidated Tigers took on the Bulldogs from Magnolia in a home conference game. Going into the night’s game, the Tigers were without one of their key offensive forces in Sutton Springer, they were going to have to focus their offense around others. In set one, the Tiger’s were very dominant, taking a 16-10 lead. Magnolia, however, would continue to fight back to eventually bring the score to 19-18. Ava Derbes was one of the driving forces that propelled the Tigers to win the set 25-23. As set two began, AMCHS found themselves once again fighting for every point against the Bulldogs. Through multiple lead changes, the Tigers began to break away creating a 5 point lead. They went on to win the set 25-22. Set three started with the Magnolia Bulldogs taking an early 7-4 lead. Ava Derbes was once again a key player in turning the set around. Derbes lead her team back to a 12-10 advantage. The Magnolia Bulldogs kicked their offense into gear and regain the lead, making it a 20-17 game. From there, Magnolia took the set 25-23. The fourth set began just like the third, with Magnolia taking a quick 7-2 lead. Magnolia continued to dominate the set, leading 17-7 at the second time out from AMCHS. Even with the break, Magnolia would not slow down, taking the set 25-18. Magnolia’s scrappy defense completely shut down Derbes and sealed the win of the fourth set forcing a fifth. With the fifth set only going to 15, the Tigers were going to have to pull out all the stops to pull off this win. Just like the beginning sets, both teams fought for every single point. This set was lead mostly by the defense with Maddy McKinney making amazing saves to keep the ball in play. The Tigers went on to break away from the Bulldogs, taking the fifth and final set 15-11. They won the game 3 sets to 2.

Offensively, it was Ava Derbes leading the way with 22 kills. She was the go-to player for setter Sydney McCorkle who had 46 assists on the night. Emma Pahl led the defense with 20 digs followed by libero Maddie McKinney who had 16 digs. The Tigers would combine for 47 kills, 88 digs, 7 blocks, and 11 aces to complete the win against the Magnolia Bulldogs.
