It’s no secret that tonight was a big game for both teams as it was the second time that the A&M Consolidated Tigers and the College Station High School Cougars faced each other this season. After being swept in the last meet up, the Tigers were looking for redemption. However, after great efforts on their side of the court, fell short in a sweep losing 3-0. The Tigers knew coming into this game that they were going to face a hard-hitting team with great blockers. A big contribution for the Cougars were the Warren sisters. When watching these siblings, it is obvious that there was no lack of athletic ability in these girl’s genes. Senior, Bri Warren who is lethal at the net, is committed to Texas A&M to play softball. Younger sister and outside hitter, Brielle Warren, who is a sophomore, is only going to continue to be a dangerous asset to the Cougar offense.

In the first match, the Tigers weren’t up to their normal standard. Many little errors at the net occurred as well as numerous shanks that cost Consol momentum and points. This gave them a loss of 25-16. In the next two sets, it was obvious the Tigers got their jitters out and delivered on their attempt to shut the Cougars down, losing the next two matches with the same score of 21-25. Constant rallying back and forth between the Tigers and Cougars occurred in these matches, having every person in that gym on the edges of their seats. In the third set the libero, Maddie Mckinney, served consecutive times keeping Consol in the game, causing the Cougars to call for a timeout to collect themselves and regroup.

After being out with a high ankle sprain, Senior Sutton Springer, made it back in time for her last rivalry match against the Cougars. Springer walked onto the court with confidence and made it look easy with seven kills on the night with no indication of any weakness in her ankle. There to back her up, Sophomore Ava Derbes, had 8 kills on the night to aid in the rallying between the teams. Despite the devastating loss, the Tigers showed a relentless attitude following the first set that kept the Cougars on their toes which kept the game close.

Come watch The Consol Tigers as they take on Rudder High School on Tuesday, October 15th, in Consol Gymnasium!
