St. Joseph Eagles Take Home Win Over Allen Academy

October 9, 2019

The St. Joseph Eagles looked to continue their hot streak in district with a big midweek matchup against cross town rival, Allen Academy Rams. Going into the night, the Eagles planned to celebrate their lone senior #20, Reghan Millhollon. She is 1st team all-district in Volleyball, Soccer, and Trac,  along with being an Academic all-state athlete. Though there is a lot to celebrate, she wasn’t the only reason they were there. The Eagles handled business early, and often, against their rivals. The Eagles swept the Rams in 3 straight sets leading them to HUGE victory.

The first set was dominated by #15, Elena Kuder, as she strung together 22 consecutive serves to quiet the Rams. After her streak was ended, the Eagles didn’t miss a beat. They were able to get right back on track behind #16, Robyn Schoenemann, who ended the first set with 3 kills herself. St. Joes took the first set 25-5.

Moving into the second set, the Rams were forced to tighten up on defense and that’s exactly what they did. The two teams went back and forth the entire set,  until #4 Annie Marvin, was able to take matters into her own hands. Marvin was able to square up a few hits later in the match helping the Eagles take back the lead.  Alongside her was ,none other than, Robyn Schoenemann. Schoenemann had 3 huge blocks that stopped the Rams late 2nd set rally. St. Joes came away with the second set, 25-23.

Elena Kuder was able to get the team started early in the 3rd with a few big serves to put the Eagles on top early. After an Allen timeout, the Rams were able to get a few stops and put together a run of their own. However, senior Reghan Millhollon, was able to dig a few out and get the Eagles right back to where they needed to be. With a lead late in the 3rd, and final set, Robyn and Annie took off. #16, Robyn continued to shut down the Rams at the net as she ended the 3rd set with 3 blocks and 1 kill. Meanwhile, # 4 Annie Marvin, was an absolute sniper with her kills. She was able to hit every inch of the court, giving her a total of 6 kills in the last set. The Eagles took the third set  25-17, giving them a sweeping victory over cross town rivals Allen Academy.

The Lady Eagles look to continue their dominance as they play away against BVCHEA on Thursday, October 10th at 6 p.m.
