Brazos Christian vs Legacy Christian Academy Football Recap

October 26, 2019

Game Summary

On a cold October night, the Brazos Christian Eagles came into a district matchup scorching hot. The Eagles were already riding a 3-game win streak and looking to add another one against a tough, Legacy Christian Academy squad. The Eagles got off to a slow start in the first quarter as they went scoreless, and trailed going into the second when they aggressively turned on the jets. The domination that was witnessed in the second quarter was largely due to the Eagles’ defense forcing and recovering three fumbles, These all led to touchdowns by the offense, including another touchdown that came off a punt by the LCA Warriors. With a 28-7 lead at halftime, the Eagles were soaring into the 2nd half in which they tacked on one more touchdown in the third as well as two more in the fourth.

The first quarter started off a little scary for Eagles fans, as their high-powered offense was held stagnant for the first time in a while. As a result, the Warriors were able to tack on their own score, in which they drove down the field creating a 7-0 lead going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Eagles made a few adjustments on both the offensive and defensive side and gave the Eagles fans the show that they were used to seeing.  The rally in the second quarter started by an early fumble recovery by Brazos Christian, that led to a 1-yard touchdown from running back Grant Hancock. The defense did not stop there as they recovered another fumble on the next drive, that led to a 10-yard touchdown connection between quarterback Bryce Steel and receiver Jacob Smith. The Eagles’ run did not end there, as they soon hooked up for another 33-yard touchdown pass and catch a mere two minutes after the first one. As the quarter seemed to be dying down, the Eagles recovered another fumble on a muffed punt which led to a 12-yard touchdown scramble by quarterback Bryce Steel. Even though the first quarter may not have gone as expected, the Eagles came out of the first half having seized all momentum and a 27-7 lead over the Legacy Christian Warriors.

The second half started much like the first on the offensive side of the ball. The Eagles did not manage to get on the board until there was 3 minutes left in the third quarter, in which they capitalized off of another 1-yard touchdown run by running back, Grant Hancock. The defense played a vital part in the domination of the second half as they did not allow for the Warriors to score the entire third quarter. Thus leading into the fourth quarter where the Eagles were holding onto a 33-7 lead and looking to add on even more. This was soon accomplished by their offense as number 13, Davis Carroll, punched in his own 1-yard touchdown run making it 39-7 in favor of the Eagles. With the game winding down and a victory upon the horizon, the Eagles added another touchdown as their receiver, Trevor Collins, broke for a 30-yard touchdown run to make 45-7 with three minutes left. The Legacy Christian Warriors would add a touchdown in the remaining three minutes that were left on the clock, but it just wasn’t enough making the final score a whopping 45-13 favoring the Brazos Christian Eagles. Brazos Christian finished the night with 430 total yards; and stand out performances from Bryce Steel, Jacob Smith, and a strong performance for the entire Eagles defense. Most notably Trevor Collins racked up 162 yards on 8 receptions and a 30-yard touchdown run showing his versatility throughout the contest. The 6-2 Eagles will now look forward to their next district matchup as they are on the road next week facing the Rosehill Christian Eagles hoping to continue this current win streak.
