On Friday night, Brazosport Christian came in to Eagle territory to take on St. Joseph for a senior night matchup. St. Joe’s came in to the contest at 5-4 after a tough loss at Alpha Omega Academy. The Eagles looked to redeem themselves and send their seniors out with a bang. They fought through the weather and tough field conditions to come up BIG!

In the gutsy 63-48 victory, the Eagles put up a total of 556 yards. The offense came up big delivering 386 rushing yards, led by Twister Barrington. He rushed for 205 yards and scored a total of four touchdowns. Quarterback Trace Brightwell also helped the team by rushing for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Brightwell also completed 6/10 passes for 67 yards. Of the receivers, James Navjar had three rushes for a total of 40 yards, resulting in two touchdowns. Navjar shined on special teams as well, with a 45-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Navjar also got it done on defense, coming up with the Eagles’ only interception of the game.

During a post-game interview, Coach Castilleja claimed this victory “wasn’t the prettiest for us this season.” He took a positive outlook on the game; confident in St. Joe’s win and improving their record to 6-4. When looking ahead, he stated “it’s time to focus on the next opponent, and prepare for playoffs.” Overall, Coach Castilleja is pleased with the depth of his roster, knowing his reserves are up to the challenge. The St. Joseph Eagles have an upcoming BYE week, and look forward to resting their bodies and preparing their minds for the post-season. Make sure to stay updated with the team as they continue their hopes of a deep run in the playoffs.
