Brazos Christian Football Player Spotlight: Bryce Steel

November 24, 2019

In this edition of Brazos Christian: My Player Spotlight, we will be taking an inside look at starting quarterback Bryce Steel.

Bryce has had quite a year with the Brazos Christian Eagles. The senior quarterback has thrown for over 2500 yards, including 35 passing touchdowns. Among these accolades on the field, he has averaged roughly 12 yards per pass this season. This impressive play has led the Eagles to an overall record of 8-3 and a district record of 3-1. The numbers speak loudly by themselves, but it is Bryce’s character off the field that has his head coach Ben Hoffmeier talking.

In a brief interview with coach, he discussed Bryce’s leadership on and off the field. Coach stated, “Bryce is a leader on the team and represents the team well.” This leadership has been well recognized throughout the program as it has earned Bryce the title as team captain. Coach Hoffmeier also touched on what an incredible quarterback Bryce is with his even more impressive arm. Off the football field, the quarterback is a great student with a 4.03 GPA. He is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and honor roll. Bryce also has a high empathy for others. Coach talked about Bryce’s ability to be inclusive. He finds a way to make everyone involved and connected with each other. This is a true sign of a leader, regardless of it being in a sport setting. It is clear how highly Coach Hoffmeier looks upon his senior quarterback. “Players like Bryce have created a positive football culture at Brazos Christian High School.”

After talking with Coach Hoffmeier, we were able to sit down with Bryce Steel to get a better understanding of this young man. Bryce has been shaped by his father, and he owes a lot of his success to the values his father has instilled in him. Bryce stated, “My dad encourages me to get better at everything I do.'' Mr. Steel, Bryce’s father, started his own business and has built it from the ground up into a thriving operation. This hard work caught Bryce’s eye and has motivated him to work hard in everything he does. After high school, Bryce plans to play college football, depending upon the offers he receives. The senior quarterback has already seen the offers rolling in these past couple of weeks, so the future looks very bright for this young man! Growing up, Bryce was always surrounded by the game. It has had a huge impact on who he is as an individual, and he places a lot of identity in football. Of course, as one would imagine, Bryce has always been a quarterback. This comes as little shock based on the success he has had this year. In the classroom, Bryce enjoys the subject of history, however, he plans on studying Business in college. Not only that, but Bryce also plans to obtain an education minor so he can look into the avenue of coaching. It is clear that football has a special place in his heart. Another interesting fact about Bryce is that he is involved in the school’s recycling club. Bryce is no stranger when it comes to extracurriculars. Lastly, this wouldn’t have been a complete player spotlight unless we had asked Bryce what his dream job is. Bryce has big aspirations, and he would love to play in the NFL one day. Nothing is too big for this young man.

Bryce has an impressive resume behind him, and he is well respected by his peers. He has led his team to a first-round playoff win and looks to keep this impressive season going. Everything is bigger in Texas, and this is particularly true when it comes to high school football.
