COLLEGE STATION HS

Head Coach: Coach Symank

2018-19 Record: 25-6 (9-1 in district)

Key Players: Mia Rivers (Jr), Rebekah Hailey (Jr), Na’Layjah Johnson (Jr),

Preview: After a very successful 2018 season and a strong playoff showing, finishing in the regional semi-finals, the Lady Cougars are working through some obstacles with the start of their 2019-20 season. “This following year we are 10 games into our season. First tournament went well. Saw tremendous amount of growth the first 10 games. Experienced players are helping to pick up where we left off. The brutal reality is that we are not the same team. We still have high expectations, but we’re finding our new identity. We lost some footspeed, so we are changing a little bit the way we play defense. We had two early losses and went 1-3 and that was a wake-up call, so my players with experience realized they need to pull a little bit more weight. Right now, with district 19 you hope you survive each night, but each game will be a bit of a challenge.” The Cougars tipped off their new season on November 8th and are currently sitting at 5-4.

A&M CONSOLIDATED HS

Head Coach: Wendy Hines

2018-19 Record: 14-8

Key Players: Cierra Gilbert (Jr.), Isis Beechamp (Sr.), and Zavianna Williams (Soph.)

Preview: A young team from last year is coming back with more energy and strong passion for basketball. With Cierra Gilbert, Isis Beechamp, and Zavianna Williams, the offense is getting better with team chemistry and team growth. Williams and Beechamp really make a good duo when they are synced in.

RUDDER HS

Head Coach: John Shelton

2018-19 Record: 23-8 overall (5-3 in district). Lost in the quarterfinals

Key Players: Deondra Young (6’, Sr.), Tianna Mathis (Jr., 1st team all-district), Keaundra Kelly (Jr., 2nd all-team district).

Preview:  The Lady Rangers tipped off their 2019-20 season on November 8th with a win against Belton, and are currently sitting 5-1 with a loss to Ellison. Coach John Shelton is pushing for high ambitions this year against last season’s successes, and isn’t taking anything for granted. “Last year we advanced to the Quarter-finals in the play-offs. We have most of our team back and are expecting to continue to get better. This is a very competitive district. Last year our 4th place team beat the 1st place team in the Bi-district play-offs. We will run, press and play aggressive man-to-man defense.”

BRYAN HS

Head Coach: Chris Jones

2018-19 Record: 3-19 (0-14)

Key Players: Jonnae King (5’5, Jr), Teounea Tolliver (5’4, Jr)

Preview: The Lady Vikings have struggled to establish a locally competitive program the last few years, and will be starting their 2020 season without any senior leadership. They tipped off their 2020 season with a win against Brenham on November 12th.

BRAZOS CHRISTIAN

Head Coach: Karen Heintz

2018-19 Record: 2-14 ( 0-5 in district)

Preview: Following their 2018 season, the Eagles are starting their season off 0-2 in their overall record. They have a new season to overcome their obstacles and work on improvements, and have their work cut out for them. Their next game is December 3 at 6:00p against Central Texas Christian.
